The SUD Spectrum of Service

The diagnosis and treatment of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) involves a structured approach and process, developed and managed by national organizations as well as federal and state laws.  The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) is one such organization whose model of understanding and structuring the treatment for SUD has been adopted into law. Availia uses the newest, 4th Edition of ASAM available, outlined below.

'ADIS' 8-Hour Education Class

Alcohol Drug Information School

ADIS is a state-mandated class after DUI conviction if no diagnosis or treatment results. Can also be recommended in other situations, such as being combined with outpatient therapy. Offered once every fourth Saturday.

Level 1.0

Long-Term Remission Monitoring

This low-intensity level is intended for the maintenance stage of recovery, after a person has completed treatment and continues to value ongoing support as life continues to occur and bring new challenges. It is common for a client to stay with the provider who knows their history of growth and effort in building new strengths, improving effectiveness when stressful events occur. 

Virtual access is more common in the lower level of SUD intensity, thogh each agency has different policies and practices. Long-term remission monitoring is usually self-motivated as the client remains with a provider they've grown to trust.
Group Discussion Scene resembling process groups involving more discussion that allows clients to organize their thoughts and experience with group support, also proving the opportunity to be seen and heard.

Level 1.5

General SUD Outpatient

A range of treatment, under 9 hours of weekly contact:

  • 1.5 Ed-OP (Educational Outpatient Program) - 1 hr/week

Typically reserved for Mild SUD Diagnoses

  • 1.5 CC (Continuing Care) - 3 hrs/week

Final phase of aftercare (post-IOP phases).

  • 1.5 RP (Relapse Prevention) - 6 hrs/week

Level 2.1 (Coming Soon)

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Intensive Outpatient programs (IOP) each follow ASAM's requirements for at least 9 hours weekly contact. Availia plans three, 3-hour groups weekly, and clients enrolled in IOP are expected to have a weekly individual session as well, which will be scheduled online or by phone.

IOP involves a lot of education, offered in live seminar or lecture format with questions and engagement encouraged to generate thoughtful discussion.
Minimalist Bedroom Interior is what inpatient treatment rooms could be like, possibly similar to a camp or dorm room.

Level 3.5

Intensive Inpatient (IIP)

When individuals are unable to abstain from substance use, their recommended level of care is generally a residential one so their recovery environment is monitored or managed, depending on the level of intensity, with other related levels involving this intensity but with added medical support. Availia does not provide these residential levels of care but we do refer to them if clients are unable to abstain while enrolled.
